ABOUT
Dr Razvan Stoita

MD, FRACS(Ortho), FAOA
Consultant & Specialist Hip and Knee Surgeon

An early adopter of robotic and computerised surgical techniques, Dr Stoita uses 3D computer analysis and advanced imaging to plan and perform hip and knee procedures with precision.

BACKGROUND
Education & Experience

Dr Razvan Stoita is a highly experienced, fellowship trained orthopaedic hip and knee surgeon. He has subspecialty expertise in treating hip conditions, hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, knee ligament sports injuries and knee pain due to patella(kneecap) maltracking and instability. He completed his orthopaedic training on the Sydney Northside Training Scheme of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, rotating through some of the country’s leading hospitals.

He subsequently completed advanced international fellowships in complex hip and knee surgery in London (UK), Hamburg (Germany) and Annecy (France), training under some of the world’s best surgeon.

Dr Stoita has been in consultant practice since 2015 treating hip and knee conditions, including complex revision surgery.

EXPERT IN COMPLEX CASES

Limb Reconstruction Centre, MQU Hospital

Dr Stoita is a member of the Limb Reconstruction Centre at Macquarie University Hospital, a multidisplinary clinic designed for patients with complex, unresolved or previously treated hip and knee conditions. Cases are supported by advanced imaging and 3D modelling by biomedical engineers. The Limb Reconstruction Centre aims to be a leading facility in Australasia for complex and innovative limb surgeries.
Dr Razvan Stoita works alongside a team of highly experienced orthopaedic surgeons at the Limb Reconstruction Centre including Professor Munjed Al Muderis, Associate Professor Kevin Tetsworth, Dr Tim O’Carrigan, and Dr Mustafa Alttahir.

ADVANCED SURGICAL TECHNIQUES

NSW’S First Surgeon To Perform Robotic Surgery Using NAVIO

Dr Stoita uses the NAVIO system’s 3D mapping to eliminate the need for pre-surgery CT scans, allowing for precise implant placement and faster recovery. He uses computerised 3D planning combined with high-performance bearing materials to perform replacements that return patients to a high level of activity. He is trained in both the direct anterior and posterior approaches for hip replacement.

JOINT PRESERVATION FOCUSED

Preserving Your Natural Joint

Dr Stoita’s philosophy prioritises preserving the natural joint. He routinely performs ligament repairs, meniscal repairs, and limb realignment (osteotomy) surgery. Replacement is reserved for advanced joint degeneration only.

Dr Stoita has a specific interest in knee ligament repair and reconstruction. He uses almost exclusively part of the quadriceps tendon to perform anatomic, all inside, arthroscopic ACL reconstruction.

He has a special interest in computerised 3D modelling in the assessment of patients with knee deformities. In young and active suitable patients, he performs knee realignment surgery (osteotomy) using 3D printed patient specific guides that allow for accurate, minimally invasive surgery with rapid rehabilitation. This joint preserving surgery leads to restoration of knee function and postpones the need for knee replacement surgery.

He also has a keen interest in malrotation problems of the lower limbs and how they present as knee or hip pain. He performs derotation osteotomies of femora and/or tibia on a regular basis. Dr Stoita is at the forefront of the evolving techniques in arthroscopic and other types of joint preservation techniques, and this has led him to establish a programme for orthopaedic fellows from Australia and around the world looking to refine their skills in hip and knee surgery.

PERSONALISED TREATMENT PLANNING

A Treatment Plan Tailored To You

Each treatment plan is based on your symptoms, activity level, and long-term goals, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Dr Stoita takes time to understand your lifestyle and what you want to get back to, then maps out the most appropriate pathway, whether that’s joint preservation, rehabilitation, or surgical intervention.
